|Karmanyevaadhikaaraste Maa Phaleshu Kadachana|Live without any, absolutely any expectations! But keep on doing your dharma. To me, this lesson is the most difficult lesson to learn. But once learned, the benefits of that lesson are innumerous. The most visible benefit is you don’t get frustrated if the result shows it otherwise, simply because you didn’t expect the outcome.
Sounds strange, right? This is not the way how markets work! Investors invest only when they expect some Return on Investment. The world is run by expectations.
Expecting something is a Human Instinct. Not expecting anything is Consciousness!Second benefit is, you think less, and you doubt less. In this process, you are less likely to have any pride and prejudice. Hence you are less likely to have misunderstandings. Prejudices often successfully lead oneself to misunderstandings. This is because of the all powerful and universal Theory of Beliefs! In sai baba’s aarti in marathi, it’s mentioned
|jaya mani jaisa bhaava taya taisa anubhava|
You tend to get only those experiences which can be meaningfully interpreted by applying your existing beliefs of which prejudices or preoccupations form the major part. And precisely because of the wonderful fact that those experiences get interpreted often successfully by applying your then-existing beliefs, the experiences end up strengthening your beliefs further! It means your prejudices, preoccupations, misunderstandings, illusions or whatever get strengthened. And this leads you away from your focus. This doesn’t let you focus on single thing. You start revolving unendingly in this vicious circle of beliefs. This theory is really the most powerful theory that works without fail! Amazingly mighty theory!
Focus on a single thing instead with an unbiased mind! As and when you get any experiences, try not to link them up with whatever comes in your mind. Just don’t link them up in the first place! That’s it.
Again, sounds strange, right? That’s not the way detective or intelligence agencies work. They are driven by suspicions and doubts. They always link the experiences they get in a meaningful manner. They have to formulate logically sound beliefs by which they could investigate the cases faster. The world is run by suspicions and doubts. The Original Sin, that you may have heard about!
Doubting is again a Human Instinct. Doubting nothing is Consciousness!
Thirdly, you get rid of the Desires. As the God of Desire, kamadeva says, I am omnipresent, all pervasive for even getting rid of the desires is a Desire in itself! Therefore you can’t really get rid of me! Quite right, isn’t it? But you don’t have to desire ‘that thing’ either. You just don’t have to desire anything. That’s it.
Again sounds strange, right? That’s not how evolutionary biology works. Darwin’s theory is all about survival for the fittest.Evolution is the proof that it’s the desire that drives life on earth. The Desire of Sex, the Desire of Pleasure, Desire of Power. Most (or should we say almost all) of the human decisions are greatly influenced by these desires.
Again, desiring something is Human Instinct. Not desiring anything is Consciousness.
We will try to explore the importance and meaning of being conscious in the upcoming article!
