Last blog discusses the qualities of Rajas and Tamas and argues that the foundation to acquire these qualities is Fear. It equates Ravana to Rajas and Kumbhakarna to Tamas. Both gunas provoke us to perform adharmik deeds.
Vibheeshan is Sattwic. He represents Sattwa Guna. He therefore does everything that dharma dictates him. Unlike his brothers, he is not associated with Hope. He is associated with Faith! Vibheeshana means who does not invoke fear, who is not fearsome. For that, he has to be fearless first. Therefore, Sattwic person is Fearless. With the sheer darshana of Vibheeshana, fear, doubt naturally vanish.
If we carefully observe, the future never is and the past never was! All that is there, always, is the present. Present is eternal. And that’s why Vibheeshana is Chiranjeevi. He never dies. He lives eternally in Lanka. Faith and Dharma never die. Hopes and Fear die. Krishna says, in Gita,
“Dharma sansthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge!”
I will come again and again to protect dharma.
What is Lanka? It means the manifestation, the world. Material aspect of creation.
Ravana tried to rule the Lanka. He considered this world to be his own and did everything to rule that. Adharma!
Vibheeshana on the other hand, surrendered himself unto Rama. His deeds are always virtuous, righteous. Rama then confers Lanka upon Vibheeshana, Dharma, after killing Ravana.
Dharmah rakshati rakshitah!
We are anyway rulers of this Lanka! You are that! Tat tvam asi! But that rulership (or this realisation) has to be bestowed upon, has to be earned (from Rama) through doing the virtuous and righteous deeds.
Sattwa also means essence. He who sticks to Dharma, knows the essence of life. He is Sattwic. And the essence is…that’s right!
Jai Shri Ram!
