Rama Rajya

The last blog looks at the justice from the lens of Cosmic Principle. It is everpresent, always operating incessantly. The purpose is to “heal” the world! We often say that as any kind of wrongdoing hurts, justice has to heal.

I feel like there’s no difference amongst justice, forgiveness, tolerance and love! Justice operates along with tolerance 1 and manifests along with tolerance 2. So, in other words, there is no point in time when there is no tolerance! And it’s because of the space the tolerance gives us, that we are able to play and enjoy. We make jokes, make fun, be playful and sometimes be a little naughty as well!

Tolerance is also another name for forgiveness. I remember cricketer Virender Sehwag’s quote from one of his interviews: “As long as I don’t get caught, it’s four”! He scored most runs in the third man at the same time, he got caught most of the time in slip position! The lord or Justice is so kind, that because of his forgiveness, I get time to learn from my mistakes and also play and enjoy. Tolerance is everywhere, omnipresent. Justice also uses tolerance to operate and manifest.

If at all we want to use a single word that preserves the meaning or essence in all these words justice, forgiveness, and tolerance without an iota of any kind of loss, the word is “Love“. Love naturally fosters tolerance for the beloved’s imperfections. It took me much of my time to realize that forgiveness is not the absence of justice; rather it is the justice of the highest order!

Remember Jesus’ words?

Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.

Justice to me is not an immediate, harsh retribution for every minor infraction, but it is to be seen as a larger, more patient process that incorporates learning, growth, and the space for imperfection. It’s the grace that allows us to err, learn, and continue our journey.

This is exactly what the Rama Rajya is, as envisaged by Sage Valmiki. In Rama Rajya everything happens withing the domain of tolerance 1. There’s no need and place for tolerance 2! Another way, perhaps the best way ever so far, to describe the Rama Rajya is by poet saint Jnaneshwar:

दुरितांचे तिमिर जावो विश्व स्वधर्म सूर्ये पाहो
जो जे वांछील तो ते लाहो प्राणिजात
May the darkness of sin disappear, may the world see the rising sun of righteousness, and may the desires of all creatures be fulfilled.

A description of Justice, filled with compassionate vision, can’t get better than this.

Jai Shri Ram!
